When’s the last time you deeply took care of yourself? During National Wellness Month this August, we’re focusing on managing stress and promoting healthy routines. It’s all too easy to get rushed throughout the day, feel stuck in a cycle of sugar cravings, or realize you’ve lost an hour looking at your phone in bed. Ahead, some easy mindset shifts for shaking up your habits—how to take care of you all month long!
The importance of mornings
“Either you run the day or the day runs you,” goes the quote by Jim Rohn. If you spend most of your day working and catering to the needs of others, try to start your morning off with one non-negotiable thing that you do for yourself, whether it’s a 2-minute yoga flow, steaming your face with a hot towel, or drinking a cappuccino. It’s amazing how much this one intentional act sets the tone for the rest of the day.
Sundays are for meal prep
Or Mondays…or Tuesdays…or any day that works for you, but batching healthy foods ahead is one of the easiest ways to set yourself up for nutritious eating throughout the week!
Weekly meal prep could include marinating and roasting a lean protein, whisking up a salad dressing or high-protein herby sauce, batching overnight oats or chia pudding for breakfast, and fixing keto-friendly bread for the week’s healthy sandwiches.
Plan to do less
It might sound negative at first, but the truth is that we can’t succeed at everything all the time. Instead of feeling guilty about not being able to finish your book club reading and make the networking happy hour and hit the gym 6 nights a week, choose ahead of time which things add the most value to your life and let go of what’s not realistic.
You don’t have to be the parent who goes to every PTA meeting and makes bake sale goodies from scratch with their heirloom sourdough starter—cupcakes from Scotty’s mix will simplify your day, are healthy to share with everyone, and can be made with just as much sweetness and love.
Set a new rule around phones
You may already take some kind of measure to limit your screen time in order to stay sane, but National Wellness Month is the time to take it to the next level! Whether it’s turning your phone off on the weekend, not bringing it into your bedroom, or setting app limits, do one thing to reduce your screen usage. Your brain, eyes, mental health and family ecosystem will thank you for it!
Listen to your cravings—sort of
Intuitive eating isn’t as simple as it sounds. What if your intuition is telling you to eat a whole tray of brownies? (Well, maybe if it was a tray of Scotty’s brownies…)
But even our sugary cravings are giving us deeper information, if we really listen. They might be telling us that we need more sleep, or that we’ve been eating a lot of refined carbs lately, keeping us in the cycle of blood sugar spikes and cravings.
Sometimes when we want that crumbly coffee cake, it may be a signal to reset with a jog, plenty of water, and an early bedtime to catch up on sleep. But that doesn’t mean you need to deny yourself, either! Scotty’s mixes provide healthy, keto-friendly treats for whenever you want a warm, comforting sweet snack without that empty carb feeling that comes with it.
Healthy new habits are based on ease and reward. Luckily, Scotty’s products provide both. We hope these tips inspire you during National Wellness Month, and we’re here to support you along your healthy path.
